Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert came to Lake Placid on Sunday to see what all this high-speed bobsled and skeleton talk is all about. Like many who see skeleton and bobsled from a distance (and usually just once every four years), Colbert got his chance to ride both.

Colbert joined today's four man World Cup winner Steven Holcomb in the number three sled position. After surviving his first-ever bobsled ride from the top of Mount Van Hoevenberg, Colbert jumped on a skeleton sled from curve 13.

When asked which he preferred, Colbert pointed to the skeleton sled. "It went slower," quipped the comic who hosts The Colbert Report. "The bobsled ride felt like I was being hit in the head with a sledgehammer."

Now he understands why the world's top bobsledders can only tolerate perhaps three runs per day. There's more effect on the body than people realize.
