Congratulations to Team USA! Gold in 4-Man and Bronze in Women's Bob!

NASCAR veteran Geoff Bodine created the project in 1992 after he noticed USA Olympic Bobsled athletes competing with European made sleds. At that time the USA team had not won a medal since the 1956 Winter Games in Cortina.

Bodine set out on a quest – a “Made in America” sled project that would provide USA Bobsled athletes with sleds designed with NASCAR technology. At the 1994 games the USA teams used the sleds but still had no medal results and in 1998 they just missed a medal by two hundredths of a second. At the 2002 Winter Olympic Games they broke the drought with a Silver and a Bronze in the 4-man competition along with Gold in the Women’s competition. The USA team is now a constant medal winner on the World Cup circuit and the sleds are known as one of the best in the world, if not the best. Their signature is how quiet they are compared to other sleds coming down the mountain.

Bodine now feels it is time for his fellow NASCAR drivers to have a chance to drive a Bobsled like he has, and so he has created the Annual Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge. He wants to use the race as a fund raiser to continue to advance the USA Bobsled team's technology. “With another track being built for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada, I need to take the project to the next level," says Bodine, the 1986 Daytona 500 winner along with 18 other NASCAR wins. “Like NASCAR, the sport is about racing and the rules and technology change, which mandates R&D which costs money. I need some other NASCAR people to assist me with the project and the best way to do this is to get them into a Bobsled environment and give them a feel for the sport. They will not be disappointed.”

Today the USA World Cup Bobsleigh team is finishing among the top sleds at most events, and competing for the Gold consistently. But the Germans, the Swiss and other top teams continue to develop their own technology. With a goal of bringing home Gold Medals from Vancouver in 2010, the testing and development of sled technology for our USA athletes continues.

The Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project needs donations from individuals and sponsorships from corporations to continue this work. This is an easy way for you or your company to be part of a winning Olympic team.

When asked why he continues in his efforts after thirteen years of work, Bob Cuneo, lead designer of the Bobsled Project and owner of Chassis Dynamics, had this to say, "I always watched the  Olympics when I was a boy and dreamed about being up there…when I see our bobsled athletes on the podium it is like it is me up there."/p>
